Mobile Recording by Harpgear
I offer a mobile sound recording service, in the North West of the UK. Typical projects include:
- Musicians (individuals or small chamber groups) wanting to create a cd to sell.
- Musicians wanting to create a demo or audition cd.
- Spoken word recordings for family archives.
- Children speaking or playing their musical instrument.
I use highly specified stereo microphones, an analogue to digital preamp, and digital input, direct to recording device. I do not record electric/synthesised instruments except where they can be recorded with microphones.
I have found that excellent results are possible with a surprisingly small selection of specially chosen equipment.
- Achieving a natural balance by careful positioning of microphones, rather than using a mixing desk.
- Rejecting a multi-track recording environment, even though this is available to me. Prefering to record the true ensemble . Duos or small chamber groups must perform together, and listen to each other !
- I offer editing and lightly-applied enhancements, where necessary.
- Because relatively little equipment is used, set-up time is minimal.
I have recorded short instrument samples in ordinary living-rooms, which you can listen to. Click the instrument links on the right.
These are compressed to 96 kbps at 44.1hz. and contain as little as 7% of the original cd quality recording. This compression allows you to listen to them quickly online. Sound quality is reduced accordingly. But please also realise that computers are usually shipped from the factory with poor quality sound cards and speakers. These soundclips offer a glimpse of what can be achieved within an ordinary domestic setting.
